«What is this book about»
The purpose of this book is to help existing and experienced 4D 2004 developers use 4D v11 SQL. It covers the in-depth unterstanding and application of the new technologies introduced in v11 and the process of migration from 4D 2004.
The major changes from 4D 2004 to v11 are a true SQL engine, a new component architecture and enhanced user interfaces. To illustrate these changes, a database for a bicycle dealer is developed and "grown" to include all these new technologies an to show what can be done with 4D v11 SQL.
«The structure of the book»
The first part of the book covers the new v11 database engine as this inpacts all the other changes to 4D in v11 SQL. The second part covers Components, as this is a major change to 4D's software architecture. The third part covers all the v11 enhancements, such as new interfaces, web XML, etc.. The fourth part covers the new Maintenance and Security Center (MSC), which replaces 4D Tools and puts together all the functions needed to maintain your database, e.g., Backup, Restore and Rollback, Last, but not least, is a fifth part on Migration, covering everything you need to know, including tips and tricks, to jump into the 4D v11 SQL world.
