AutoDoc is a 4th Dimension plugin which automatically creates documentation for your 4th Dimension products. If you are an independent developer who provides source code with your deliverables, many clients appreciate detailed documentation to be included. AutoDoc can help you automatically generate that documentation directly from your code base. If you are working in a large group, AutoDoc can be used to create documentation of commonly used methods, variables, tables, etc, within your group for quick and easy web-based reference. The output that AutoDoc generates is heavily customizable. AutoDoc uses a set of "template" HTML files to generate the resulting documentation. You can create your own set of template files for AutoDoc which allows for a high level of customization. In other words, you can tailor the HTML to look as if your business unit generated the documentation. As well as generating internal cross referencing links in the resulting documentation (ie, quickly jump to all uses of a variable in a project), AutoDoc also generates links directly to the 4D documentation (online or on your local disk). This makes the resulting HTML display of methods much easier to peruse for a novice programmer, as they can quickly link directly to online documentation. Additionally, AutoDoc can export an XML file that can be used by the 4D DreamWeaver plugin to expose the variables, methods, and other useful information.
